It seems that there are only three sorts of Muslim:
- the majority who don’t know what the Qur’an says;,
- those who are frightened into just pretending;
- and those who really do think that 1+0 = 1.25.

What You Need to Know about Islam

All Muslims believe that the Qur’an is the word of Allah, His Last Testament. And that Allah is all-knowing, all-powerful. It follows that Allah could not have any sort of communication problem, and so if there is any book that can be clearly understood by all, of whatever native language, and without need for special expert “interpreters”, then it must be the Qur’an.

And in fact the Qur’an does indeed make one message absolutely clear. Listed below are some of the more than a hundred of Allah’s verses which give commands for the conduct of the Holy Jihad of terror against unbelievers. Nothing in the Qur’an genuinely forbids that warfare. Via internet or library you can compare all the main translation versions and see that there’s not a lot between them. And can confirm that these meanings are not being distorted by taking out of context.

".... I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, Smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger tips of them." [8:12].
“It is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land.” [8:67]
“O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives … and those whom thy right (sword) hand possesses of the captives of war whom Allah has assigned to thee.” [33:50]. “Married women are forbidden to you except the captives your sword hand possesses.” [4:24]
“One-fifth of your spoils of war shall belong to Allah, the Apostle, the Apostle's kinsfolk, the orphans, the destitute, and the traveler in need.” [8:41]
“You shall be called upon to fight a mighty nation, unless they accept Islam.” [48:16]
“Warfare is prescribed for you” [2:216].
“Who so fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or victorious, on him we shall bestow a vast reward.” [4:74]
“Hast thou not seen those unto whom it was said: Withhold your hands and establish worship and pay the poor-due? But when fighting was prescribed for them, behold! a party of them fear mankind even as they fear Allah or with greater fear, and say: Our Lord! why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? If only Thou wouldst give us respite for a while. I Say: The comfort of this world is scant; the Hereafter will be better for him that wardeth off evil.” [4:77]
"Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers." [48:29]
“Allah promises you will capture much booty.” [48:20]
“Slay the pagans wherever ye find them”.[9:5]
“Fight the unbelievers till they pay the Jizya tax on unbelievers and are subdued.”[9:29]
"Prepare for them whatever force and cavalry ye are able of gathering, to strike terror, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah and your enemies."[8:60]
"…. if they turn renegades, seize them and kill them wherever ye find them, and take no friends or helpers from their ranks." [4:89]
"Fight them until there is no dissension, and the religion is entirely Allah's." [8:39]

Qur’an 59:2-7 is a commentary on the start of Mohammed’s ethnic cleansing of Arabia, with his military attack against the Jews of Bani-Nadir. (As with much of the Qur’an its context is made clear by the related sacred Hadiths which are detailed accounts of Mohammed’s sayings.)

These Qur’an verses below make clear that the Jews were acting defensively [59:2], that Allah approved of their eviction into destitution [59:2] and the unexpected innovation [59:5] of cutting down their desert food trees to terrorise them, and Allah granted the Muslims unearned ownership of the property of the now destitute Jews [59:6-7].

“He it is who hath caused the Jews who disbelieved to go forth from their homes unto the first exile. Ye deemed not that they would go forth, while they deemed that their strongholds would protect them from Allah. But Allah reached them from a place whereof they reckoned not, and cast terror in their hearts so that they ruined their houses with their own hands…“[59:2]
“This is because they were opposed to Allah and his messenger ….” [59:4]
“Whatsoever palm trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah’s leave, in order that he might confound the evil-livers.”[59:5]
“And that which Allah gives as spoil unto His messenger from them, ye urged not any horse or riding-camel for the sake thereof, but Allah giveth His messenger lordship over whom he will. Allah is able to do all things.”[59:6]
"The spoils of war taken from the town-dwellers and assigned by Allah to His apostle shall belong to Allah, to the Apostle and his kinsfolk, to orphans, .....” [59:7] And there’s a lot more of this nature in the Qur’an.

You likely won’t have read any of those warfare verses before. The only Qur’an verse that is ever quoted by most Imams or in the media is “Let there be no compulsion in religion”. And that verse supposedly proves that Islam must be the religion of peace, forbidding all aggressive warmongering. And yet almost all the main translations render its meaning as the mere statement that “There is no compulsion in religion”[2:256]. In other words it is merely Mohammed’s observation that many people did not agree to Islam even when he held his sword to their necks or poked their eyes out.

We shall now turn to the question of whether the beliefs of this proud warrior religion are actually true or not. For this purpose, let us start again as we began this article. It follows that everyone should be able to agree on what is the meaning of this book by the most supreme communicator.

And yet in reality there are the most profound discrepancies of meaning attributed to the Qur’an. There are Imams, Sheiks and many other Muslims who are convinced that Islam really is the religion of peace. And yet there are also many high-ranking Muslims in many countries who believe the Qur’an commands them to commit a war of terror against non-Muslims (as per the short film Fitna). And when you show to Muslims the quotations included above and below here, most will try to assure you that you are not qualified to understand this definitive message from this all-powerful communicator. They will say that you need to not only know Arabic but must also have profound special expertise in Qur’anic interpretation, because Allah’s book is supposedly too difficult for mere you and me to understand, and Allah changed his mind and “abrogated” all those aggressive verses (actually the later ones).

If all this doesn’t seem to make sense to you, that may be because it does not. It may be because the Qur’an is in reality not the word of Allah but is instead the self-serving declarations of a military politician whose name you already know. Many of those who leave Islam do so because when they study the Qur’an they find it fails to live up to the assumptions they had had about it.

Some Muslims will reply that in order for people to have free will they have to be able to choose to misunderstand the Qur’an. But that is a well-known reasoning fallacy called false dichotomy. It is perfectly possible for Allah to make his message absolulely clear and yet at the same time for people to have free will about just about everything that matters. And anyway, quite why would anyone want to misunderstand the All-Powerful All-Knowing Allah? Especially given the horrors they would face in place of the wonderful rewards promised for faithfully following Islam.

Anyway, here are some more excerpts from Allah’s perfect communication which we presumably are choosing to misunderstand (for reasons Allah only knows why).
“Do they not ponder on the Qur'an? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy.” [4:82].
“Every being that is in the heavens and on earth: all are devoutly obedient to Him.” [30:26] … and the Qur’an also makes hundreds of references to those who are not obedient [2:11-20, 3:10-12, etc etc] and the horrors that await them.
Allah created the heavens and the earth in six days [7:54, 10:3, 11:7, 25:59], and Allah created the heavens and the earth in eight days [41:9-12].
Allah created man from a blood clot [96:1-2], from water [25:54], from clay [15:26], from dust [30:20], from nothing [3:47].

Qur’an 4:11-12 and 4:176 state the Qur'anic inheritance law. When a man dies, and is leaving behind three daughters, his two parents and his wife, they will receive the respective shares of 2/3 for the three daughters together, 1/3 for the parents together [both according to verse 4:11] and 1/8 for the wife [4:12] which adds up to more than the available estate. A second example: A man leaves only his mother, his wife and two sisters, then they receive 1/3 [mother, 4:11], 1/4 [wife, 4:12] and 2/3 [the two sisters, 4:176], which again adds up to more than the available property.

It seems that there are only three sorts of Muslim: the majority who don’t know what the Qur’an says, those who are frightened into just pretending, and those who really do think that 1+0 = 1.25.
